Google IO '25 is proof that a ChromeOS Android shakeup is coming but we'll have to wait

We're just a week or so since Google IO and I have been busy with consuming content related to the event and there was something missing. ChromeOS was nearly a no show and was only mentioned here and there when Google discussed making apps adaptable to different layouts. Now, this is not entirely surprising since this is a developer conference, however, ChromeOS usually gets some stage time or a "Whats new in ChromeOS" video uploaded to YouTube. Last year Google announced that ChromeOS is transitioning to Android frameworks but did not highlight anything specific. With ChromeOS becoming more like Android at the OS layer more of what we see may just be related to Android itself.

What surprised me?

Gemini was mentioned throughout Google IO and it was even announced that it is coming to Chrome for Mac and Windows but not Chrome for ChromeOS. Gemini is on ChromeOS but as a PWA. There are no real hooks to the OS like it is on Android. It seems like integrating Gemini into ChromeOS will have to wait until the work with merging Android into the OS layer is done. Things are not exciting for ChromeOS users and fans right now but the future is still bright and patience is the key.

A Googlebook will definitely be my next laptop

The release of the newly announced Googlebook cannot come fast enough for me. I am in the market for a new laptop and have my sights set on a Googlebook with the hope Google is making one. So far there are about five laptop manufacturers that are slated to be producing and releasing one this calendar year. Although, details are sparse surrounding the Googlebook I've seen just enough to know that I want this device to be a part of my tech ecosystem.  My current tech ecosystem Admittedly, I've been holding out for a minute to get a new laptop. Fortunately, my current device is still meeting my needs but barely. Right now, I am rocking a Pixelbook Go from 2019 and using a Pixel 10 Pro with a Pixel Tablet. I'm fine with this setup but my needs for more capable and powerful computing is getting harder to ignore. My Pixelbook Go does not seem as connected to my other devices as I would like which would explain why I don't use it as much. ChromeOS has not progressed much over ...
