Nest Audio | Early Impressions

I've been having the Nest Audio’s for just over two months now and they are just what I thought they would be. A worthy successor to the OG Google Home. The sound quality is much improved and I am pleasantly surprised how loud they can get. I have two and use them as a stereo pair in my living room. My plan is to write a more in-depth blog that will be more detailed. These are just my early impressions.

So how good is that sound

In a word, impressive. I am in no way an audiophile and these speakers are not meant for those looking for professional-grade or high-quality sound. I would classify the sound produced by Nest Audio as for casual listening. The speakers get nice and loud while producing rich sound and solid low-end bass. Vocals are clear with excellent music separation with the mids, highs, and bass. I tend to look for details in the music that can be hard to hear but the Nest Audio played them well. Having two Nest Audio’s definitely fills a large room with good sounding music.

Look and feel

The Nest Audio has a familiar look as Google’s most recent speakers such as the Nest Mini and Google Home Max. Mesh fabric covers the entire speaker giving it a nice modern design. Nest Audio is much heavier than it looks. Weighing in at more than two and a half pounds. I’ll list more tech specs at the end of this blog post.

Price

You can get a Nest Audio for $99 dollars and there are some savings if purchased as a pair. I saved $20 at Best Buy when I bought two. Recently I saw online where you can buy two for $149. I'm sure there are always deals so if you are interested I suggest searching the web.

Thoughts so far

I'm very pleased with Nest Audio. It's a solid option and provides a real value at a $99 price point. There are other aspects of the Nest Audio I plan on blogging about in the near future such as the Google Assistant and areas where it can improve. Although I can already tell that after two months I can easily recommend the Nest Audio. It's a solid performer and should be considered for anyone in the market for a smart speaker.

Sticky Google services I actually pay for

I've been meaning to write about this for some time now and I'm just getting around to it. Google has slowly built an ecosystem of not just devices but services that have become a part of me and my family's everyday life. I find these services to be very reliable, comparable to the competition, and worth the asking price. Youtube Music/Premium - I have a family plan and been a subscriber since Google Play Music. The service was a little rough around the edges, to say the least at first but as Google does they iterated the hell out of the service. I now find it to be better than Google Play Music and see why the change was made. Looking forward to new features and updates in the future. Near future, I hope. Youtube TV -  I've been a subscriber since early on and I love the service. Unlimited DVR is a killer feature along with profiles for each user. Google has added channels over time and lost some, unfortunately. But YTTV is a solid service and the best out of the bu
