JBL Tour One review | A solid premium headphone option for 2022?

The JBL Tour One is JBL's high-end headphones for 2021. I got them for a really good deal during Black Friday this past November and I've been using them ever since. The headphones are very stylish and feel premium. Though not perfect the JBL Tour One headphones can compete with the best headphones on the market in 2022.

Build

I find the build to be excellent with soft-touch material. It feels like metal but it's too soft to the touch so it's probably polycarbonate. There is no creaking and the Tour One's have proven to be very durable thus far. The included case also helps with that. The earcups are very comfortable while providing plenty of cushion. Top part of the band also features an equally comfortable amount of padding that just adds to the comfort.

Sound

The headphones are from JBL so the sound is excellent, right? That's true to an extent. Let me explain. The highs are nice and bright and the Tour Ones does an excellent job with the range of sound. Music sounds very detailed and I hear notes in music I haven't heard before. Vocals are warm and that's probably my favorite part about the sound. My least favorite has to be the bass. They just don't hit hard enough for me. There is a lack of deep bass while overall bass is punchy. I do find the bass to be passable I guess I was expecting more.

Features

  • ANC- JBL Tour Ones pass all of my none scientific tests. Listened with ANC on with kids around and I did not hear anything. I also ran water in a sink and the sound was not discernable at all.
  • Hey Google - Works as expected. Response from the Assistant was fast and without any hiccups.
  • Fast Pair - Connecting the Tour Ones was fast with Fast Pair. All I had to do was turn them on and a notification popped up on my Android phone within seconds. I followed the on-screen prompts and I was good to go.
  • Hi-Res - Sound is excellent say for the lack of heart-pounding bass. But that's subjective and your mileage may vary.
  • Ambient Aware and Talk Thru - While not flashy these features are excellent. I use Ambient Aware to keep an ear out for my kids while still listening to music. The mics pipe in just enough sound around me for me to hear what's going on around me. Talk Thru is not used all that much by me but it does make it comfortable for someone to talk to a person without shouting.
  • 4 Mic Array - I was stunned by how well the mics performed on the JBL Tour Ones. You will definitely stand out during your video call.

Pricing

$299 (I got them for $149)

Final thoughts

If it wasn't clear before I really like the JBL Tour Ones. The overall sound, build and mic quality really stand out for me. Check the video below for more on my thoughts on the JBL Tour One.

Google Tasks just received a visual update

Today on my Pixel 8 Pro I received a UI update for the Google Tasks app. While minor in nature, the overall look of the app arrangement makes more sense, at least to me. The FAB button is in the same spot on the bottom right side. The action buttons that were once on the left side are now on the upper right side of the app. No new functionality was introduced but that's to be expected. I like what Google did here. The bottom of the app where the FAB button is made the bottom bar look beefier than it needed to. The back border adds depth to the app and keeps things looking clean. Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think in the comments section.

JBL Tune 520BT | My time with JBL's latest budget headphones

Back in May I returned the JBL Live 670NCs and picked the JBL Tune 520BTs instead and so far I am pleasantly surprised with my decision. Don't get me wrong the Live 670s served me well, however, with me also picking up the JBL Live 770NCs in April I felt that the 670s were too similar to the 770s in terms of features. Review is coming by the way for the 770s. With the 520s I get enough of a difference while saving some money. Let's get into the mini review. Comfort I find the 520s to be more comfortable than the 670s. To me, the 670s clamped down on my ears and head while the 520s just sat on my ears. There is a piece of rubber or plastic at the top of the headband that provides some cushion. The ear cups are fine and work as intended. In all, I would say that the 520s are good for long listening sessions.  Sound and Mic Quality The 520s are a budget set of headphones so I didn't expect much in the sound department but found them to be more than adequate for most casual lis
