Nest Hub (gen 2) | Shorty review

The Nest Hub gen 2 smart display is not that different from its predecessor and that's okay. Where Google made improvements and the addition of sleep tracking makes this device a worthy upgrade. Let's jump right in and talk about it!

Starting with the display. It's very good and ideal for photos and screensavers. Video looks good as well, keeping things nice and crispy. Also, the glass goes edge to edge making it easier to clean and keeping unwanted particles.

Moving on to sound. This was an area where Google needed to improve and they did just that. Music gets nice and loud with more noticeable bass than the gen 1 model. Vocals come through too so listening to podcasts became a little easier without the need to turn things all the way.

The last things I want to mention are the software and performance. There is a processor update but unfortunately, it does not feel like it. Things can get laggy at times when interacting with the display but it does not hinder the experience, that much. I would say the performance is passable, however, I hope Google can make things more responsive in a software update. Speaking of the software, it's mostly the same but there is one notable feature worth mentioning and that's sleep tracking. I have yet to try this feature out to date because this device resides in my bathroom for the time being. I do plan on trying this out in the near future and will provide an update on my experience.

All in all, I must say that I do like this device and believe it's worth the upgrade over the OG Nest Hub. Sound is much better and with the addition of sleep tracking as a bonus feature combined with all the things you can do with this smart display I definitely recommend it. The Nest Hub is one of those devices that found a spot in my life and with Google known for making helpful updates over time I'm sure I will benefit from owning this device for years to come.

Shouts out to the YT Music team

I must admit, I was a bit of a skeptic when Google announced that Google Play Music was going away in favor of Youtube Music awhile back. Then I remember when Google said that your music library will be transferred over from GPM to YTM. I immediately thought, oh no. How can this be done without error for millions of users? Yet they seemed to have pulled it off. I had no issues with transferring my music over and everything was there right where I left it in GPM.  If you haven't already I suggest making the switch and transferring your music from GPM to YTM if you intend to. Google gave notice to it's GPM users that you will no longer be able to make transfers after February 24th, 2021. Making the transfer is easy and is done in the background. Check out the community post here . As far as features and how YTM compares to GPM I would say that it's pretty much on par. For me, the main features are there and I like how the improvements YTM has over GPM. The cool thing is tha
